Winnie
Winnie finished her CD in three trials with three first places. She is a field champion and works regularly with reactive dogs. She also does therapy work with handicapped children. She is bench pointed too. She is loved and owned by Vicki Ronchette of California.
An exciting letter from Vicki about her Winnie, June, 2007
Hi there!
I just wanted to tell you that today Winnie took the extensive Delta
Society Therapy dog program evaluation. I had attended the orientation and
workshop and have been getting ready for the actual team evaluation today.
The Delta Society program is the hardest therapy dog program to pass. They
insure you so they are very very picky. She passed!! I was so proud
of
her. I was really only concerned about the Leave It exercise. They
have to
be able to offer the dog food right in front of their face and have the
owner/handler say "leave it" and the dog may not take it. Tough
one for
Winnie but she did it (and came home and ate a cheese omelette with me for
doing it!). You may choose to allow the dog to take it but they must not
feel any teeth at all and they hand the treat with their fingers. I chose
leave it, but after she did it the evaluator asked if she could give her one
and I said yes. She said had I opted to let her take the treat she would
have passed it too because she was gentle. They have to do a ton of
other stuff like be sat
in wheelchairs with a person, be approached by wheelchairs and scary people,
have people yell around her, have people hug and maul her, it's really
intense, but she was brilliant.
I have never been so proud of her. They complimented me
on her teeth
(which are perfect especially for a 7 year old) and coat (they have to be
impeccably groomed for Delta). So, now the vet has to fill out his form
and
we turn all our paperwork and pictures in and she will begin visits.
Probably we will do assisted living facilities. Two of my clients dogs
passed as well and we will do our visits together as a Braveheart Team. It
should be fun.
Anyway, I thought you would want to know how great she did.
